While these V-vials are not designed hold alcohol-based perfumes, by popular demand TWIS is making vast improvements to both long and short term oud storage and transport by once again offering 0.2 ml, 0.75 ml, 1.75 ml and 10 ml high recovery V-vials. Unlike the more traditional vials and small bottles usually provided with purchases of precious perfume oils and ouds, our high recovery storage products will allow all of their contents to be extracted without the use of diluents or heat. Our convenient 0.2 ml size V-vials can also be used to carry a small amount of product to work or for travel without fear of theft or contamination of one's primary bottles. See product page for cauctions for filling the 0.2 ml V-vials.
What are V-Vials? Our heavy glass V-vials are fabricated from lab grade non-leachable borosilicate glass which virtually eliminates migration of contaminants contained in normal glass (which is itself a liquid) into precious oud oils over time. We have also fitted our 0.75ml, 1.75 ml and 10 ml vials with tough phenolic caps with polycone inserts which provide an ultra-tight seal without allowing oil to seep into cap threads. The biggest advantages are portability and that precious oils will not get "eaten" by the bottle's nooks and crannies and thus perhaps be recoverable...but only in a diluted (ie carrier oil) or chemically altered (ie heated) form.
Our 0.2 ml travel/sample V-vials are also built to last as they are fabricated from lab grade polypropylene. These vials have a much larger diameter than typical vials and sit squarely on flat surfaces thus allowing them to stand upright with less chance of toppling over during storage. We fitted these vials with ultra-snug caps with integrated plastic applicators thus lowering the potential for leaks and for ease of application by people on the go. Each vial is shipped with an appropriate pre-printed oil-proof label which facilitates product identification and offers a long label life.
What TWIS V-vials are not. Our 0.75 ml, 1.75 ml and 10 ml glass V-vials are not intended to be used with applicators which are placed back into them after contacting skin. Rather, we provide these vials to give our customers the opportunity to avoid contaminating their costly products with dead skin cells, lotions, soaps, perfumes and other biochemical debris which could be introduced via contact of a typical rough-surfaced plastic applicator with skin and its reinsertion into the primary storage vessel. While caps with integrated glass applicators are a better solution because they can be cleaned after use prior to resertion, in reality this is rarely done. We believe bottles with detached glass applicators is the optimal solution for minimizing product contamination.
How products from V-vials are applied, and why. TWIS ships each V-vial with one of our hand-crafted borosilicate glass and natural stone applicators. If used and cleaned properly these applicators can virtually eliminate the contamination of your precious products which may change their scent profiles over time. However, unless extreme care is taken, it seems obvious that "personal ingredients" are unavoidably being deposited into bottles after each application/reinsertion cycle and that this results in a build-up of "stuff" over time. It is also not a stretch to assume that since ouds and other oils are sometimes used over lotions and other perfumes that this process could affect the scent profiles over time. If the defense to applicator reinsertion is that ouds kill and/or dissolve everything they contact, then we may all have a lot to worry about.
NOTE: By popular demand, TWIS still sells high recovery V-vials, and they can be purchased using the “Other Products” dropdown menu on our homepage.
